Five-minute video covering what’s new in OpenGL 4.0, which was released at GDC 2010.
In short, they’re on par with DirectX 11 now, and they aim to stay in lock-step with DirectX henceforth. This is promising—it opens the possibility of OpenGL (a graphics standard formulated by a consortium of companies ranging from Apple to Intel to NVIDIA) becoming the driving force behind mainstream graphics innovation rather than DirectX (developed solely by Microsoft).
The future is made of tailor-made applications built with open standards. This is a major step in that direction for the graphics world.
