Health. Care.

Think of it as two words instead of one. Health Care vs. healthcare.

I felt compelled to reply to some friends’ comments about the current health reform proposal on Facebook and I wanted to share my comments here with everyone.

I’m going to give somewhat of a prototypical moderate’s response, but here goes: America needs health care reform. Most would agree this point is irrefutable. However, what the current proposal needs is careful consideration and measured evaluation before it is signed into law. Once it is law, it will be very difficult to change any of the flaws that are also inarguably present in the proposal as it currently stands. The claims of Obama being a socialist are indeed lies, but the concern over how this health care reform is enacted is warranted for the haste with which it has been proposed.

Health insurance companies need a kick in the pants, but we neither want private insurance companies to fall victim to a government monopoly nor do we want needless and ethically questionable taxes forced upon us. As one person I know put it, “I don’t want to pay for some idiot’s abortion in the slightest.”

The mudslinging needs to stop on both sides so everyone can sit down and just read the bill.

If you care about your health, do your research, and I mean look into it and think. When you’ve got something to say, write, call, email, twitter, or otherwise contact your Congressman about what you think should happen. The only way this is going to work is if it’s done right the first time.

Let’s make it happen.
